Two lunches in Kingston

On Monday the Kingston school meals working party had an outing to two schools in the borough. King Athelstan and Malden Manor have both chosen to manage their own catering arrangements and are enjoying good take-up.

King Athelstan has recently started work with Restaurants at School. We all enjoyed the lamb casserole with parsnips, peas and cabbage (choy mein was the vege option) and we were delighted to see clear menus on display and instructions about the self serve options.

Malden Manor have had a happy three year relationship with Pride Catering. Their numbers are consistent and the kitchen team is clearly valued by the school - their photos were on display in the reception area along with the teaching staff. We had a lovely vegetarian curry (pasta bolognaise as the meat option) and as with King Athelstan enjoyed lots of fresh crisp vegetables.

We waddled away with full tums into a meeting to discuss the way forward for the borough contract, to work out how all schools in Kingston can enjoy the same quality and freshness as King Athelstan and Malden Manor.
