It was great to be at the Good Food on the Public Plate awards at City Hall last night. Good things are happening all over London in public sector catering, with universities, hospitals, schools and the London Metropolitan Police working with Sustain to buy and use more sustainable food. By working in partnership they can increase the use of:- local and seasonal produce
- food from farming systems that minimise harm to the environment
- less but better quality animal products raised to higher welfare standards
- fish from sustainable sources,
- fairtrade-certified products
- avoiding bottled water
- healthy, nutritious food
Particularly exciting to see the contracts manager from Kingston LA in attendance busily taking notes! Looking forward to sharing all this good practice with Kingston and at the first school food working party at Richmond LA on 2nd December!
