Yesterday was the first session of a four-day training course organised by the Sheila McKechnie Foundation. It's humbling to hear the stories of campaigners making such a difference to people's everyday lives; dealing with the issues of homelessness, asylum, violence against women, poverty. For a moment food education and sustainable public food was feeling a little aspirational, but I was heartened to hear from campaigners who recognised the healing and nurturing properties of growing food. Many want to look at the possibilities of linking with SFM and Capital Growth to develop growing projects. Likewise I was reminded how food is a common denominator. We heard how when an Afghan boy told his story of detention to a secondary school group, the details were so unimaginable that the only question the students could ask was "what did you eat?" Food is the great leveller and it deserves our attention.
i agree, food is a common denominator! It is good to hear of such excellent work!
